In case you missed it, Thomas Friedman absolutely nailed a recent op-ed on the U.S. government shutdown.
His argument: What’s at stake this time isn’t a simple shutdown, but the power of majority rule and how we govern ourselves.
Throughout our history, we’ve shown that city, state and federal deals simply don’t get done without extreme sacrifice on both sides of the aisle. Gerrymandering and partisan factions within political parties (and party leaders unwilling to take them on) threaten our democracy (perhaps the goal of those who behave so poorly?). A great, big problem that Friedman addresses very well.
